The training aimed to enhance the qualifications of academic and invited staff of the Medical Doctor’s (English) one-cycle educational programme of the Faculty of Healthcare Sciences in the field of assessment in medical education.
The training was lead by AYHAN S. CALISKAN, MD, PhD, Associate Professor at United Arab Emirates University, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Medical Education. He has many years of experience in administrating, monitoring, teaching and learning in medical education. He is a member and examiner of several Turkish and European Board Certification Examinations.
Discussed topics were:
- Introduction to assessment in medical education, knowledge assessment;
- Performance assessment, Objectively Structured Practical Examination (OSPE);
- Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE);
- Workplace-Based Assessment (WPBA); Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX); Direct Observation for Procedural Skills (DOPS);
The practical component of the course included:
- Formulating and creating Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) or open-ended questions;
- Organizing and piloting OSPE examination;
- Organizing and piloting OSCE examination;
- Mini-CEX demonstration & discussion; DOPS demonstration & discussion.
The cycle of trainings was conducted at the Clinical and Practical Skills Development Centre of East European University by active involvement of participants, who were awarded with certificates at the end of the course.
