Workshop Series: Physical, Mental and Social Well-being

A series of workshops on well-being was held in the current academic year at the initiative of the Physical, Mental and Social Well-being Scientific Research Center of the East European University.

The first workshop was devoted to the general meaning of well-being, which was led by EEU rector, head of the Scientific Research Center for Physical, Mental and Social Well-being (PMSW) – Kakhaber Lazarashvili.

Within the framework of the second meeting, the results of the research conducted by the center were presented, which will affect the factors affecting the well-being of the academic staff. The meeting was chaired by Natia Gegelashvili , researcher of the Physical, Mental and Social Well-being Scientific Research Center .

The third workshop in a row was held under the leadership of Davit Sikharulidze, head of the Scientific Research and Development Department of EEU, senior researcher of the Physical, Mental and Social Well-being  Scientific Research Center (PMSW) . The meeting was devoted to the research conducted on the mental well-being of students. With the help of this research, the relationship between students’ mental well-being and academic performance was studied .

Articles about the mentioned studies were published in the International Journal of Health, Wellness & Society, a highly rated scientific journal of the Sorbonne University

Within the framework of a series of workshops planned by the East European University Physical Mental Social Well-being Scientific Research Center ( PMSW), two studies on well-being were conducted in the academic year 2023-2024 About the well-being of students and academic staff. Articles about the mentioned studies were published in the International Journal of Health, Wellness & Society, a highly rated scientific journal of the Sorbonne University .

  1. “The Unequal Costs of Covid-19 on Well-being in Europe”

The book “The Unequal Costs of Covid-19 on Well-being in Europe” was published as part of the cooperation between the Sorbonne University and the University of East Europe, which I presented at the University of East Europe. The book presents a broad analysis of welfare and policy implications in Europe. The paper focuses on inequality and well-being during Covid-19 and includes comparative studies of the changes and outcomes caused by the pandemic in Europe and beyond.

One of the chapters of the book is devoted to the work of the researchers of the Physical, Mental and Social Well-being Scientific Research Center of the East European University: – “The Economic Repercussions of Covid-19 and Well-Being in Georgia”.

An article by Natia Gegelashvili, a researcher at the Physical, Metal and Social Well-being Scientific Research Center, was published in the collection of materials of the National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students of the East European University on the topic: “The role of well-being in a student-centered teaching approach”. The article examines in detail the relationship between well-being and student-centred learning, approaches to well-being and the scientific literature that exists in the context of the contemporary educational space.

The East European University’s Physical, Mental and Social Well-Being Scientific Research Center has developed three curricula based on UNESCO’s International Technical Guidelines on Sexuality Education for the Bachelor’s Program in Preschool Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences. These curricula are focused not only on the development of preschool children, but also include important aspects related to the well-being of teachers.

  • Physical and mental well-being at preschool age;
  • Ethnicity, identity and cultural context in preschool age;
  • The teacher’s socio-emotional approach and its impact on teaching and learning.
