Ombudsman of East European University:
- Provides a safe and confidential environment where students feel respected and will be able to be honest;
- Listens to the student’s problems, acts as a mediator between the parties in conflict relations arising from the violation of rights and freedoms, and facilitates effective communication;
- Supervises the protection of students’ rights and freedoms at the University;
- Reveals violations of students’ rights and freedoms and promotes the restoration of violated rights and freedoms;
- Engages in information and educational activities (trainings, presentations, discussions, etc.) in the direction of students’ rights and freedoms;
- Checks the state of protection of students’ rights and freedoms and responds to the facts of their violation both on the basis of received applications / complaints, and on its own initiative;
- Reviews student statements and complaints about actions that violate student rights;
- Provides recommendations and consultations for students, provides information on relevant procedures and regulations at the University based on the specific situation;
- Informs students of their rights and responsibilities, including explaining appeal procedures, giving legal advice;
- Mediates a student to receive information from the relevant structural units of the university and clarify the details;
- Calls on the parties to the dispute to participate in the mediation process;
The Ombudsman has no right:
- To disclose confidential information;
- To change the rules / legal acts in force at the University;
- To incorporate the functions of other university staff that may prevent them from maintaining a neutral position during a conflict;
- To provide legal advice (note that the Ombudsman is not a lawyer, he helps you / is a mediator and does not decide who is right or wrong)
