At East European University (EEU), the Faculty of Education Sciences and the Center for Doctoral and Higher Education Research Development hosted the Third National Doctoral Scientific Conference on 6 December.
The aim of the conference was to create a platform through which doctoral students could present cutting-edge research in various fields, enhance their research skills, and foster dialogue and collaboration among representatives of different disciplines.
The conference was opened by Professor Kakhaber Lazarashvili, Rector of East European University, and Professor David Cherkezishvili, Chair of the EEU Academic Council. Participants were also welcomed by Lasha Margishvili, Director of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement; Professor Paul Gibbs, Emeritus Professor and Head of the Center for Doctoral and Higher Education Research Development; and Assoc. Professor Ketevan Aptarashvili, Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences.
It is also noteworthy that the second volume of the Doctoral Conference Proceedings (Editors: Paul Gibbs and Ketevan Aptarashvili) was published this year and officially presented during the Third National Doctoral Conference.
The keynote speaker was Professor Louise Dalingwater from Sorbonne University (Paris), who also serves as the Head of EEU’s English-language PhD program in Education Sciences. She delivered a talk on the challenges faced by doctoral students in the 21st century and led a discussion focused on doctoral students’ needs and current demands.
Around 50 doctoral students from 10 private and public universities across Georgia took part in the conference. The event was held in two parallel sessions:
- Education, Business, and Economics (Moderators: Prof. David Cherkezishvili, Prof. Kakhaber Lazarashvili, Prof. Davit Sikharulidze, Prof. Louise Dalingwater, Prof. Vasil Kikutadze)
- Law (Moderators: Prof. Shalva Kvinikhidze, Prof. Zukhra Matsaberidze)
Throughout the conference, panel discussions were organized to support the development of essential skills for doctoral students, including effective communication, research methodology, academic writing, and career development. Participants received valuable guidance and feedback from leading experts in their fields.
All participants were awarded certificates and received the Proceedings of the Second National Doctoral Scientific Conference (2024), which compiles research papers presented at the event held on 6 July 2024. Additionally, the publication of the next volume—featuring papers presented at the Fourth Doctoral Scientific Conference—was officially announced.
