UNDP in Line with the Confidence Building Early Response Mechanism (COBERM) and the UK Fund for Sustainable Peace (A Complementary Initiative to COBERM) Call for Project Ideas towards Peace and Reconciliation

UNDP and Confidence Building Early Response Mechanism (COBERM) along with the UK Fund for Sustainable Peace (a complementary initiative to COBERM) are soliciting innovative project ideas from representatives of civil society, including registered local and international non-governmental organizations, foundations and academia.

COBERM is an apolitical, impartial and flexible programme funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The programme supports immediate and concrete initiatives which seek to have an impact on confidence building within and across conflict divided communities. The objective of COBERM is to strengthen an enabling environment involving conflict affected communities by addressing local needs and supporting initiatives aiming to build social cohesion and confidence that foster peace and stability.

Purpose of the call:

Identify project proposals that:

  • Focuses on growing and long-term cooperation;
  • have a visible positive impact on restoring trust between conflict-affected communities;
  • Create favorable conditions for peace building and reconciliation.

Prioritywill be given to: 

  • Initiatives, including long-term cooperation perspectives, strengthen contacts between experts, professionals, local organizations and conflict-affected communities to promote a peaceful environment;
  • Initiatives in the following priority areas (not only): health, environment, education, culture, modern technologies, gender issues and initiatives to help achieve the goals set out in UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (Women, Peace and Security);
  • Initiatives that offer new approaches cover a wide range of topics and / or respond to the challenges facing conflict-affected communities;
  • Initiatives that offer internal public discussions on confidence-building issues, exposing false news and misinformation, and avoiding hate speech and changing stereotypes aimed at changing attitudes and actions in a positive way;
  • Initiatives with a strong analytical and / or academic research component from civil society organizations, academia, experts and other relevant institutions;
  • Initiatives aimed at eliminating the root causes of internal conflict in the community and containing strong elements of conflict prevention are also taken into account.

Thematic priorities of the complementary initiative to COBERM are flexible as long as the project idea demonstrates strong confidence building potential.

IMPORTANT:
  • To ensure diversification of activities and implementers, the maximum requested funding per organization can be no more than 120,000 USD.
  • A funding cap for organizations with less than 3 years of experience will be established on a case by case basis by the Steering Committee. Co-financing or in-kind contribution by the applicant is encouraged.
  • Project maximum duration: 12 months with possibility for extension.

We are now accepting project ideas until 18 December 2020, 18:00.

No applications will be accepted after this deadline.

If you have a project idea that meets the requirements of this call, please complete a standard Project Idea Submission Form (see attachment 1) and submit it electronically to coberm@undp.org.
