Dr. Merab Bolkvadze is a professor at the Faculty of Business and Engineering at East European University, head of the Bachelor’s program in Architecture, and an architect with extensive professional and pedagogical experience. For many years, he led the Tbilisi Planning Division of the Tbilkalakproject Urban Planning Department and has also been involved in teaching at various higher education institutions in Georgia.
Dr. Bolkvadze has been actively engaged in scientific research in the field of architecture. He has led the development of land-use master plans for the cities of Zugdidi and Mtskheta, numerous zoning regulation plans, and individual urban development projects, a significant number of which were completed. His work also includes the redevelopment of the Didi Digomi and Varketili-3 districts, reconstruction of Avchala Highway, several hotels and multi-functional buildings in Tbilisi and Batumi, as well as international projects in Benghazi and Sochi.
He has received numerous national and international awards, including the Creative Union of Architects of Georgia Prize, the Bronze Medal at the International Competition for the Urban Development Concept of Tbilisi, and First Prize for the Updated Land-Use Master Plan of Tbilisi. Notably, he is the author of the current Tbilisi Land-Use Master Plan, which guides the city’s sustainable urban development.
