After gaining independence, the process of internationalization of Georgian science & scholarship has gained momentum, which became even more intense after Georgia became a member of the Bologna Process (2005). However, the process of integration into the global science & scholarship is fraught with challenges. As a result of the marketisation of higher education, researchers in West have faced new challenges: they have to meet the criteria set for them by universities (publications in prestigious journals and publishing houses, obtaining research grants, etc.) and at the same time teaching loads. Similar challenges were encountered by Georgian academics, who, as a result of the influence of global structural factors, have to conduct their research and teaching in a neoliberal environment. The aim of the current project is to analyse the dynamics of internationalization of scientific & scholarly research in Georgia (1991-2021), identify the factors contributing to and hindering the internationalization of research, and explore the influence of the internationalization of research on the academic activity of the faculty. In addition to this, the project also aims to analyse higher education policy in this context and develop relevant recommendations.
