Who Provides Support?
About the Program

The Tutoring & Mentoring Program at East European University (EEU), implemented by the Language and Academic Skills Development Center, is designed to support students’ academic success, smooth adaptation to university life, and development of independent learning skills.

The program is based on a peer-assisted learning approach, where experienced students, graduates, and doctoral candidates provide guidance and academic support to their peers.

Program Objectives
  • Support students in improving academic performance
  • Facilitate adaptation to university learning environments
  • Develop independent learning and critical thinking skills
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing among students
  • Provide guidance in academic writing and research processes
How It Works
  • Students can request support through individual consultations or scheduled sessions (see: https://outlook.office.com/book/AcademicSkills@eeu.edu.ge/?ismsaljsauthenabled)
  • Sessions are conducted in one-on-one or small group formats
  • Support is tailored to individual student needs

The program is integrated with EEU’s broader academic support system and complements:

  • Academic Skills Development trainings
  • Workshops and seminars, Tutorials
Who Provides Support?

Tutoring and mentoring are delivered by:

  • Senior undergraduate students
  • Master’s and doctoral students
  • Program graduates

All tutors and mentors are selected based on academic performance and relevant competencies.

Marine Chagelishvili-Urumashvili (Head)

Marine Chagelishvili-Urumashvili is the Head of the Center for Languages and Academic Skills Development, a structural unit within the Department of Education at East European University (EEU). She is responsible for ensuring the effective management and operation of the Center.

Marine Chagelishvili-Urumashvili is an affiliated professor at EEU and holds a PhD in Pedagogical Sciences. She has over 30 years of professional experience in the field of education. In previous years, she served as a Senior Methodologist at the Republican Institute for Teacher Training and Professional Development and as Head of the Foreign Language Teaching Methodology Program.

She is also a lecturer of General, Business, and Legal English, a participant of the CELTA program (United Kingdom), and a certified trainer in the project “Teaching Reading and Writing for the Development of Critical Thinking.”

Marine Chagelishvili-Urumashvili is actively engaged in research activities. She is the author of a teacher training program (Modern Methods and Approaches in Teaching English), has published more than 10 academic papers, and has participated in and presented at numerous international and local conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Natia Gegelashvili (Mentor)

Natia Gegelashvili is a PhD candidate in the English-taught program in Education Sciences at East European University (EEU), as well as a Coordinator at the Research and Development Department and a visiting lecturer.

In 2012, Natia Gegelashvili graduated from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Sociology. In 2016, she obtained her Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the same university.

During her studies, she actively collaborated with a Business Development and Support Center in Frankfurt, where she was involved in service quality research and in the process of updating the company’s quality management system.

From 2014 to 2022, Natia Gegelashvili worked as a Research Project Manager at the IFAK Institute for Market and Social Research (Wiesbaden, Germany), where she conducted both German and international research projects in the medical and consumer sectors over several years.

In addition, Natia Gegelashvili is a fellow of the global program “Migration and Diaspora” implemented by the Center for International Migration and Development (CIM/GIZ), and a winner of the 2023 doctoral grant competition of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. She has also been awarded an honorary certificate by the Georgian Diaspora in Germany for outstanding academic achievement.

At East European University, Natia Gegelashvili actively participates in international and local conferences, seminars, and workshops, and is an author of academic publications as well as a member of organizing committees.

Giorgi Tatanashvili (Mentor)

Giorgi Tatanashvili is a graduate of the Master’s program in Educational Research and Administration at East European University (EEU). He is currently employed at EEU as a Coordinator of Educational Programs at the Faculty of Health Sciences and serves as a mentor at the Center for Languages and Academic Skills Development.

He has participated in the international academic exchange program Erasmus+, within which he studied at the University College of Teacher Education Upper Austria.

In addition, Giorgi Tatanashvili holds the position of a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences (EEU), where he teaches the course “Academic Study Skills” within the English-taught, one-cycle Medical Doctor (MD) program.

Ekaterine Beniashvili (Mentor)

Ekaterine Beniashvili is a graduate of the Master’s program in Educational Research and Administration at East European University (EEU). She is currently employed at EEU as a Coordinator of Educational Programs at the Faculty of Health Sciences and serves as a mentor at the Center for Languages and Academic Skills Development.

She has participated in the international academic exchange program Erasmus+, within which she studied at the University College of Teacher Education Upper Austria.

In addition, Ekaterine Beniashvili holds the position of a visiting lecturer and teaches the course “Academic Study Skills.”

 

Elene Zurabishvili (Mentor)

Elene Zurabishvili is a PhD candidate in the English-taught doctoral program in Education Sciences at East European University (EEU), an Assistant Professor, and Head of the Clinical and Practical Skills Development Center at EEU. Since 2019, she has also been engaged in clinical practice as an endocrinologist.

Elene Zurabishvili holds a degree of Medical Doctor from Tbilisi State Medical University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Endocrinology from Queen Mary University of London. She has completed numerous international and local professional development trainings in clinical endocrinology and medical education, including courses offered by the International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE) in fundamental medical education skills and assessment in medical education.

She is a recipient of a doctoral grant awarded through the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. Elene Zurabishvili has participated in and presented at various international and local conferences, workshops, and seminars.
