Informational meeting: Horizon Europe programs and the perspectives of East European University’s involvement in them

On May 5th of this year, the contact person for Horizon Europe programs at the European Commission, along with the Director of the International Center for Research Technologies and Innovations, Mr. Givi Kochoradze, and the Director of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Mr. Tamaz Marsagishvili, visited the East European University.

Horizon Europe is the European Union’s primary funding program for research and innovation, with a budget of 95.5 billion euros. This funding will be provided in the form of grants over a period of seven years, from 2021 to 2027.

The mission of the National Office is to strengthen the involvement of Georgia in the EU research and innovation framework programme Horizon Europe and to increase the participation of Georgian applicants in European consortia.

The objectives of the National Office are to support the involvement of Georgian applicants by providing technical assistance, including thematic training and consultations, promote the Horizon Europe programme by organizing various information events and dissemination of information and develop the Horizon Europe national partnership network, and support international cooperation.

In addition to faculty representatives and academic staff interested in grant projects, the meeting held at the East European University was attended by the vice-rector for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Shalva Machavariani; Vice-rector for Administrative Affairs of Educational Process, Rusudan Chikovani and Vice-rector for International and Administrative Affairs,  Tea Imedadze.

During the meeting, Prof. Givi Kochoradze provided a detailed presentation on the framework programs of the European Commission, Horizon Europe, and the necessary conditions for participation in its competitions.

Following the presentation, the participants engaged in a discussion on the unique features of Horizon Europe competitions and explored the potential opportunities for East European University to participate in these competitions.
