On 26 June 2026, East European University hosted the student conference-workshop, “Brain and Beyond’26 – A Clinical Neuroscience Approach to Autism,” organized by the Neurozeal Student Club in collaboration with the Faculty of Healthcare Sciences. The event was dedicated to contemporary clinical and neuroscientific perspectives on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The conference participants were welcomed by Professor David Cherkezishvili, Rector of East European University; Assistant Professor Elene Zurabishvili, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Healthcare Sciences; and Mohammed Aatir Shaikh, President of the Neurozeal Student Club. The programme also featured keynote addresses delivered by Associate Professor Giorgi Tsiklauri and Assistant Professor Teona Iremadze.
The conference brought together more than 20 students from the MD programmes of East European University and several other universities. The presentations explored a wide range of current topics related to autism, including neurobiology, functional neuroimaging, behavioral sciences, metabolic risk, the use of artificial intelligence for early diagnosis, sleep disorders, and comorbid mental health conditions.
In addition to the scientific presentation sessions, the programme included an interactive clinical workshop entitled “Autism in Practice,” during which participants gained practical insight into the multidisciplinary assessment, diagnosis, and management of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The workshop featured discussions of clinical cases from both pediatric and psychological perspectives.
The event concluded with a closing session and the presentation of certificates to participants. The conference once again highlighted East European University’s commitment to supporting student research, fostering interdisciplinary scholarship, and promoting academic collaboration.
