On May 24, 2024, the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of East European University (EEU), in cooperation with the Youth Public Servants’ Forum “ASMA”, organized the Student Research Conference entitled “Contemporary Migration and Human Trafficking.”
The conference was opened by Professor Shalva Machavariani, Vice-Rector for Research at East European University.
The participants were welcomed by Professor Kakhaber Lazarashvili, Rector of East European University, and Associate Professor Sopo Chkhopoia, Founder of the Youth Public Servants’ Forum “ASMA.”
The conference brought together students from EEU’s Bachelor’s Program in International Relations and Master’s Program in Public Administration, as well as students from various academic programs at higher education institutions across Georgia.
The event was also attended by the academic and administrative staff of the organizing university, students, and other experts in the field.
During the conference, participants delivered presentations on a wide range of contemporary issues, including illegal migration and the risks of human trafficking; migration as a driving or hindering factor in national development; the impact of contemporary trends in intellectual migration on Georgia, including the phenomenon of brain drain; the effects of migration on children left behind by migrant parents in Georgia; the acquisition of Georgian citizenship by foreign nationals, along with the related challenges and legal issues; labor migration and the risks of trafficking among women; child trafficking, its current situation, and the challenges associated with its prevention and eradication.
The presentations generated significant interest among both students and the audience, resulting in active discussions and meaningful engagement throughout the conference.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful participation.
