An international workshop titled “Education for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities” was organised by East European University (EEU) in collaboration with the European University Association (EUA).
The workshop was led by Maurizio Tira, Vice-President of the European University Association (EUA), Professor at the University of Brescia, and President of the GARR Consortium (Italy). He introduced participants to the EUA’s new strategic document, “Education Beyond 2030,” outlining key priorities for strengthening the role of higher education in advancing sustainable development.
The discussions focused on integrating sustainability principles into teaching, research, university governance, and social responsibility. Participants explored the challenges facing higher education institutions, exchanged experiences, and discussed opportunities to implement good practices and strengthen international cooperation.
The workshop brought together doctoral candidates and representatives of universities and the education sector from Georgia, as well as participants from the wider Eastern European and Central Asian region. It provided a platform for professional dialogue among stakeholders working in education policy, quality assurance, and university operations, while fostering stronger regional cooperation.
The international workshop reaffirmed the importance of sustainable development in higher education and highlighted the role of universities in shaping a responsible, inclusive, and forward-looking educational environment.
