Main research areas

Philosophy of higher education, interdisciplinary postcolonial studies, social & political philosophy, history of ideas,  philosophical geography.

Supervision

I would welcome contact from prospective PhD students about the following research topics:

  • Philosophy of higher education (the idea of the university, responsibilities of the universities, academic freedom, philosophical analysis of the issues within higher education with emphasis on social and political philosophy, experimental pedagogy,
    university and public good, feminism)
  • Philosophy of education (critical theory, existentialism, education and democracy, curriculum, feminism)
  • Educational policy and governance (higher education reforms, students’ participation in university governance, globalisation and education policy), preferably with qualitative methodology
Ongoing research projects:
  • Internationalization of research in Georgia (1991-2021) and its influence on the academic activity of the faculty (funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia)
  • Being addressed by the tradition: a hermeneutical approach to the Georgian tradition of philosophy of education
  • Towards placeful university: places and spaces in and outside of the university

I will gladly cooperate with researchers from other institutions on the following research topics:

  • Building placeful university through experimental pedagogy (place as a centre of meaning and attachment, exploring place-worlds, creating new places and spaces within university, discovering others and building existential trust, ontological education, philosophical geography etc.)
  • Interdisciplinary postcolonial studies (with emphasis on post-Soviet space)
  • Knowledge socialism and how to advance its principles in practice
  • Economic models of higher education vs social models of higher education
  • Internationalisation of research, teaching & curriculum, internationalisation at home
  • Integration of research and teaching
  • Educational policy and governance
