About the competition:

The observation on modern Georgian terminology reveals that it is basically filled with foreign language terms derived through transliteration and that terminological work in Georgia is almost completely halted.

Competition: ’’Create your own Term’’ is focused on improvement of abovementioned problem via engaging VII – XII graders as well as students.

Young candidates registered at the competition will have opportunity to get:

  • lectures on the terminology, especially on the modern issues;
  • Master classes on the terminology word processing, methods of creating term and etc.

Contestants will be given the terms they need to study and offer a jury the Georgian equivalent terms. Contestants should write an essay describing the term and justifying the Georgian equivalent of their choice.

The winner candidates will be awarded at the Georgian Language Day, as for the winner terms will be included in the dictionaries and as a result will be established in the field. The names along with the surnames of the authors of all Georgian terms will be published on the blogs.

Competition will be held annually. Each year several priority areas will be selected for which relevant expert councils (where well-known representatives of the field will be invited) will be elaborated.  Due to the specificity of the terminology, the Georgian term should be endorsed by well-known representatives of the field. This will help establish and promote the term.
